Well, my sleeping habits, which were really bad to begin with, are all out of wack right now. Michelle has informed me that you know a little about it. I am sure as I get anxious (I already feel that coming) that we will probably have a discussion or ten.

Boyd, you and your wife are in my thoughts as well

Now I am off to the political forum to see who I make mad.

OOOO which one?

x2??

Ok here is one.

Hey P-Nut,

We're camping in Denali National Park. It's been pouring rain, the kids are sleeping in cause we were up till it got dark, about 2 am

I'm getting ready to go roll them out so we can find something to do today.

So far all the kids are failing fire building.

Too bad you're not here, I'm sure you'd be able to show them a thing or two.

Google Denali, there's tons of cool stuff to do. There's even a 4-wheel drive tour that you can drive an off road vehicle through the tundra, it's pricey, but looks fun. I'm gonna try and do it next year.

You need dry tinder (grass, pine needles [dry ones work best], paper, bug spray [just be careful and don't let it flash...maybe spray it on your tinder then light it], and SMALL twigs) and when you light it have the wind at your back and light the base of the tinder.
when you get that going start adding sticks up to the size of a pencil
then add sticks to the size of your thumb and move on from there.

And if I may brag, i can get a fire going with out matches or a lighter

That sounds fun! Fire building in the rain - no wonder they're failing.

How long are you going to be camping?

My husband has a buddy in this weekend (they're out fishing right now), so I spent all day yesterday running errands and cleaning house. I didn't get down to take care of my chickens until after dark, so I strapped on one of those head-lamp type flashlights and walked down there to take care of them around 10pm. Ick, ick, ick, ick.

BUGS everywhere. All these big flying insects that I've never seen before were attracted to the light - one that looked like a centepede with wings landed on my arm. I can usually handle bugs fine, but every bug in the county was attacted to my flashlight and I kept having to brush them off my arms and out of my hair. I was determined to feed the critters, so I carried on... I go into the coops - there are cockroaches and cave crickets everywhere, crawling all over the food in the feeders.

At this point, I was sorely regretting my decision to feed at night in the summertime and I was wishing I never discovered this paticular problem...

The worst thing... I saw a small animal tuck under a cinder block near the outer wall, I bent down to get a closer look....it was a RAT! I've never seen a rat before, just mice - oh he gave me the creeps! Adding a big rat trap to the grocery list and I'm going to put it right there by the cinder block.

Ewwww.
