so in late september i got 6 chicks from atwoods and 1 is a black bantam frizzle( didn't know i was getting that). the other chicks are sleeping on the roost but Frizz can't get up there. i've read that the frizzles have a harder time keeping warm and dry. can anybody out there with frizzles tell me how cold is too cold for Frizz?

Put a heating panel (like a CozyCoop) on the floor of your coop so your frizzle can snuggle up next to it. That's what I do with my one Frizzle.

Mine did great during our first cold snap. She can't fly nearly as high as the rest, maybe 4 feet compared to the 12 feet the roosts are at. It was negatives every night and single low digits most days, but she didn't seem too chilled.

Granted when the next one happens I may move her to a different pen with more birds and lower roosts, but I had much larger concerns this snap

I think it also depends on the coop. Is it insulated? Dry? Warm? My coop is rather chilly and is not insulated so my Frizzle probably gets colder than others. Putting a thick layer of straw on the floor really helps keep heat in.

I do agree though they can't stay as dry as easily. My gal fell in a horse trough and it took about am hour and a half with a hair dryer before she didn't have anymore damp spots

thanks y'all. like i said i didn't mean to get a frizzle, atwoods had put all the leftover chicks into 1 bin. now that i have he/she(still not sure) it's so stinking cute i'm going to keep it regardless of the sex 😊

Personally I love them. My gal is an Ayam cemani (her and her brother are my profile pic) and even if It's not standard, I'm so glad I have her

i'm wondering if Frizz will have any trouble integrating with my non-bantam hens. luckily i do have the room if i have to start a bantam flock lol.

I haven't had trouble with that (my bantam Cochin is actually number 2 in a mixed flock). But I'd add at least one more bantam if possible so she's not the only onw
