My daughters have two cochin bantams that won Grand and Reserve at our county fair, and they want to hatch chicks to show in next year's fair. We are looking for a rooster to purchase (they really want a frizzle for some reason), but we live in a very rural area and the closest we can find are 3 hours away (we are in SW Iowa).
We received pictures of the 2 that are for sale, and I'm concerned about quality, and also feather quality.
The red one is 1 1/2 years old (from two frizzle parents) and the red/black one is 1 year old.
I'm wondering if the red one has poor feather quality due to coming from 2 frizzles. The black/red one has better feathers, but the feathers aren't very frizzled.
And, why don't they have feathers on their necks?
Looking for thoughts...I don't know anything about frizzles and I'd hate to buy a rooster that would produce poor chicks!
