I have two frizzles in my little flock; one is a roo and the other a hen. --SO cute!
Anyway, the roo has lost almost all the feathers on his neck, and now the hen has a bald head. I haven't seen any pecking going on, but the poor little roo has been without neck feathers for over a month now. It started in one little spot, but now the little guy looks like he could use a scarf. All of my other chickens are fully feathered and fine. It's just the frizzles. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm wondering if it's something that is common to frizzles. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

My hens peck the feathers off off the neck of my frizzle rooster. He just sits there and lets them do it. Not really sure why. Maybe thats whats happening to yours. You may just not have seen the picking yet. As for the hen she may be missing feathers on her head from breeding. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the responses...
There's no sign of lice, mites, or pecking. It just seems odd that only my frizzles have feather loss. I guess I can just hope that they'll grow back in the spring? My poor little roo looks pretty silly without any neck feathers. Poor guy!

Hello, I was just checking to see if the feathers have grown back? I just bought 2 Frizzles at our local swap meet and they are just about bald all over. I have checked for mites and I have came up with none. The lady that I bought them from told me that "All Frizzles go through a Balding Spell but they will grow the feathers back." These two little birds (just a couple of weeks old) look really bad. They seem very healty, I am just want to see the with feathers.

It's true that a lot of them go through a "bald phase" when they're little. If they're older I would worry about it though. Here's my first Frizzle that went through that stage...this was at 6 weeks old...he really freaked me out until I realized it was normal!

Here he is now...not exactly beautiful yet, but he's getting prettier every day!
