frizzle/frazzle huh?

I got a batch of hatchery frizzles 2 months ago, and was alarmed to see some slowly going naked! So I did a bunch of reading, and once I learned about the double dose of Frizzle gene, and what it does, I contacted the hatchery, and they were very understanding, said they had only just become aware of the problem, and credited me for ALL the frizzles, not just the frazzles. That doesnt make it right, but thier awareness now may prevent future occurances, and I have a couple interesting novelty chickens from which we can all learn!

fortunately, I have a nice heated coop, and they are growing up with a bunch of others to snuggle with! Or they would surely freeze to death!

this photo shows a frizzle on the right, a naked frazzle in the middle, and a 'curly' on the far left. This batch seems to have a combination of all three.

I had asked the same question, I don't know how to link that topic with this one but here is what made me understand about them, and also DO NOT breed two frizzle together, even the lady I bought my frizzle from told me this. haha

"Frizzling is a gene just like any other specific characteristic like walnut comb or mottling or 5 toes. The Frizzle gene is introduced into a breed by borrowing the gene from a diffenent breed like Krys mentioned. There is a 50/50 cross with the first generation then the breed develops with each generation reducing the amount of blood and hopefully the characteriistics of the second breed that are undesirable to the basic or original breed."
