sounds like an awesome guy!! i've never seen a frizzlee, he is beautiful!

That is quite a life's story for a little rooster.

I tried incorporating frizzles into my cochin flock. I obtained chicks through a local feedstore who orders from Privett. My experience was not good at all.

They are cute, but I find them to be genetically 'less healthy'; seriously, several were obviously results of crossing frizzleXfrizzle. Of the original six I only have one hen left. I will never allow the frizzle gene to go through my future flock. My stories are just like yours. I had a little frizzle roo, Buddy, a black with a silver hood (almost a birchen). He had been beaten to a moment of his next life by his brother. He subsequently lost his eyesight completely and so finally in his 3rd season I dispatched him for his health and safety. I was shocked to find out that he was riddled with osteomyelitis. Everywhere he had a broken bone the bones were degenerated and clustered with infection. He never showed signs of discomfort and this was all internal damage...poor boy.

I love having pet chickens, yet I am so thankful that I am finally coming into my own with taking steps to prevent anyone from suffering needlessly and dispatching them rather than nursing them back time and time again. It broke my heart to go through it but now I see a more reasonable approach.

As for the frizzle gene, It is the most horrible thing to see a chicken that loses all their feathering because they become so brittle. Mine even had higher incidences of eggbound and impacted crops for some reason with the frizzles.

I think I am happy to stick with my cochins as they are. More recently I brought home two standard cochin hens, they are both silver partridge. My bantam rooster is going to love them.

Goodluck to your brave and strong Frizzle boy... I can tell just from his picture that he is a doll and a love. I bet he just coos about any attention you give him.

oh wow, I hope he pulls through... He must be part cat! I had a cat once that had several instances where I thought that was it.
