Frizzle Question...

Sorry this took so long - busy day!

Anyway, I'm almost embarrassed to post these photos - this poor little chick looks SO ragged... But here it is - had a hard time getting a clear pic of feathers because its white, so I took one with a flash, and one without (and it was scared to death of the flash and camera noises, so it kept ducking away and wouldn't "pose" like a serama).

Remember it will be 5 weeks old on Friday.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!

He's a nearly normal feathered bird - no curls. Your first best clue of a frizzle is that the shoulders/wing bows curl back toward the head.

What you have there is a bad case of puppy uglies. Just a young bird feathering in. Ask the experts on expression of a single silkie gene because some feather edges look frayed but I'd put more money on normal than either silkied or frizzled. The tail feathers on a silkied are very different, so are the tail feathers on a frizzle and there's more than enough normal tail there to suggest neither.

Ok, thanks - I wasn't sure. I just don't remember my other seramas looking so... so... UNKEMPT!!! LOL!! I have a batch of babies that are a couple weeks behind this guy, and a couple of them are looking like this, too, but the rest are in pretty good shape.

Darn - just when I thought I *MAY* have something NEW to work with! LOL! Ah well - maybe I can talk Bluegrass into sending me some eggs sometime in the near future... <hint, hint!>

Thanks again -

Here's a baby frizzle.........

I think yours just has softer feathers (as opposed to hard dense feathers) some serama have those....plus he is still in the ugly baby feathering stage.......the silkied serama are very soft and poofy, like really long down... I dont think I have pics of them..took them to my partner's to raise indoors. He is cute though and looks like he has good wing position!

I REALLY love it when their shoulder "epaulettes" go BOING like that. It's a favorite thing.

I cannot wait to get my silkie serama/sizzle eggs to go (lol seramadizzles).

I still want frizzle eggs from you
