Purchased a pair of Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock Bantams. Their feathers look like they are beginning to curl. Does anyone have pictures of a frizzled Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock Bantam? I lwould love to see some pictures. I would be more than happy to post but as a new egg I am still not allowed to do so. Papa Mel

Rocks arent a frizzled breed so they shouldnt be frizzled and you so you shouldnt find anyone with pics of them. Are they young birds that are just starting to feather out ? If so some birds looked to be a bit frizzled when they are feathering but then it staightens out. But if they are SPR bantams and are indeed frizzled, then you would have some new mutation. To bad you can post pics yet, anyone know how long the waiting period is now for the new members to post pics ??? Dang spammers messing stuff up for the rest of us.

I just PMed Nifty and asked him how long the waiting period is before you can post pics, I'll let you know what he says but I'm thinking that its probably a set time period and not based on your the duration of your "New Egg " Title becuase not everyone has enough to talk about to get them up to the Just Hatched status, there are some members that are hear just mainly to read and they have been on a long time but havent posted much so they are still titled New Eggs based on the number of posts and at that rate they would never be able to post pics so I think its most likely just a set period of time you have to wait.

Though I also asked if it would be OK of you to maybe email the pics to me and let me post them for your becuase I would like to see these birds and the Partridge Wyandotte bantams you have. I'll let you know what he says. And if you wanted to email me the pics anyway even if I couldnt post them, I could still give you my opinion if you want. [email protected] if you want to email them.

I, too, would like to see some pics but frankly, I have to say it must be a medical issue. If not, it would have to be a very poor quality SPPR, in my humble opinion. Sigh....

I'm sorry if you have something with a medical issue, but maybe we can help? Are there any other physical issues you are seeing? How old are they?

I hate to burst the bubble, but rocks especially bantams do come in Frizzle. They are not real common but not uncommon either. I used to raise them a few year ago. It would not be a new mutation. In the standard is states that any breed can be frizzled. I have not seen silver pencilled frizzles, but that doesn't mean it cant happen. I had both white and barred frizzle rock bantams. I also had some LF White Frizzle Rocks.

From the description however I would say that you probably do not have frizzle. I bet what you have is some form of poor feather quality. Also many birds that are kept in dry climates tend to get curled feathers, because of a lack of humidity.

Here are the pics of Papa Mel's Rock Bantams. They are obviously old enough for it to not be just juvenile plumage coming in, and I do see some indication of frizzling. So what do the rest of you thing ?

It does look like some degree of frizzle to me, but I hope they aren't bred together being they both appear frizzled to some extent.

ETA: But I've never seen poor feather quality other than frazzles.
