My broody was happily sitting on her clutch of eggs. When the babies started to hatch, though, she would peck them to death. Long story short, in order to save them, I moved the remaining eggs to an incubator.

Has anyone had to move eggs from a broody to an incubator after day 18? How does the transition from one to the other affect hatch times?

At what point do I make the decision to shut off the incubator and say "that's it, they didn't make it." (I've seen some ppl say they've had a hatch as late as Day 26.)

Do you know of another thread or article which has addressed this topic/question specifically? If so, can you please link to it.

Thank you in advance for any response.

They should be fine provided your temp and humidity are set in advance

PS I had to do this because outside temps went to 118 here, worked out fine. Day 18 would be lockdown, no turning.

Thanks for replying. I was trying not to be a nervous ninny but I'm at day 3 in the incubator. So, about day 23-24.

I just did a float test on them. I have a few movers so that was a relief.

I was nervous too, I understand lol. Did you candle before putting in the incubator?

Excellent! Good luck, please update and let us know how it goes. We do like chick pics

Curiosity is the only one hatched under mama to survive. :D Runs over and hops right into our hands. And is always stretching to look over the box edge to keep an eye on what the kids are doing...hence the name.

Awe what a sweet baby. Too bad mom only likes the idea of babies and not the real deal. What breed?

I have an Ameraucana roo. Unfortunately, not sure the hen from which she came. So, olive egger it is. :)

I have Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, a Red Sexlink, Silver-laced Wyandottes, and RIRs. Definitely know she isn't from one of the Ameraucana hens though. Lol.

Next go around, I get to pick the eggs being hatched instead of the kids. :D

I want some blue egg layers in my flock. I have turkens at the moment, all barnyard mixes with Tukens actually and all from brown eggs. Some day maybe.
