Hi chicken lovers, my name is Kat & Im from Australia, I gave up smoking in Nov 2013 and took up owning chickens, I started with cross bred chickens, apparently they are better egg producers. I got a white, black & red one, not sure of their breed sorry,Im a newbie to all this, I also bought a rooster which Im told is a Araucana to mate with my hens then was told they dont brood so wont lay on their eggs so I purchased a sussex,Bob seemed to be afraid of the hens but since I got the sussex (yesterday 20th March 2014) he has been at her side pressing his face to hers and pecking at her face, I have two baby chicks but where I bought them from didnt really know their age, I'd appreciate any advice on what my Bob is and how old the chicks are,I am so excited have found this site and to become a proud chicken owner.

I forgot to ask if anyone knows what the baby chicks are. thanks..

Those chicks look to be about 2 weeks old or so. :-) You might like to chat with others in your area in the Australian thread here....

Thank you TwoCrows, I shall do that at a later date, I like it here though..

I loved smoking but had a certain person(hubby) on my case to give up, so as you said the next best thing is chickens at least I get a feed out of them & they are good company..
