From egg to chick!

Pics
But won't the chickens eat all of the beetles before they get the job done?
Oddly enough, I watched one scurry across the run one day, figured it had about 3 seconds left to live, and then the chickens that saw it, ignored it. :idunno Perhaps they don't taste good....

But the beetles have such a variety of poop to choose from around here, I can't depend on them to stick with cleaning up just chicken poo! 🤣

I need some of those dung beetles here! Guess I'd have to wait til summer. Then what...try to catch them all & bring them in, set up in a terrarium over winter? Hmmm, I need to read up on Dung Beetles 🪲
I'm not kidding either...I've had successful mealworm farms & Butterfly terrariums for years. Dung Beetle farming... might become my next thing. 😆 🤣 😂

🤣 Sure why not? Their "food" might be a bit of an smell issue though, that breeder tank might need to stay outside 🤣
We have the black ones and the rainbow scarabs - pretty bug for a gross job! 🤣

Update!

They are getting so big! And all the colors and patterns, I can see some similarities in alot of them so the same rooster must have been knocking up alot of the hens I got these eggs from! (Ebay. The seller has multiple hens and roos they stated)

All 16 are still alive, under the watchful eyes of their bigger....aunts? Siblings? Run mates? Either way my 6 pullets are keeping watch.

These two aren't doing great. They are way smaller than the others, their beaks are much worse than they were at hatching, and I think they aren't gaining sufficient weight. I can see the breast bone more prominently in those two than the other bigger floofs.

What to do? Idk my options but I know I can't kill them if needed. 😭 😢 😥
