From egg to chick!

Pics
She has these neck feathers that look super sophisticated. I need a close up of her but she won't let me catch her. She is faaaaast. You can probably see it in the photos. Her naked neck has a front strip of feathers going down into what I call her boa area.

Yup, that's how you can tell she's a heterozygous NN. They have this little pom at the front. Homozygous birds have a totally naked neck. I find the little poof adorable

Right? They were even struggling to eat watermelon I put out this afternoon. Idk what to do. Tons of wild animals out here. Honestly I could just let them go and have nature do it's thing....but I just can't do it bc I would feel so horrible!

Honestly I wouldn't let them out, better to have a quick a painless death, then a more gruesome one. Whatever you decide. Take your time, and see if their quality of life is good, and then go from there

Mine like to get their water cups dirty af. I can clean em out...next day? Dirty again. Like are they washing their feet too? Yeesh.

Oof yeah. Chicks are messy things. Adults and juveniles are messy too, but in other ways

How can you tell if I have a boy yet. I need to know if Dolly is truly a Dolly!

Well, if its any consolation, it looks like a girl so far! You'll know for sure at 12 weeks, but at 8 weeks you should have a pretty good idea of her gender

These two aren't doing great. They are way smaller than the others, their beaks are much worse than they were at hatching, and I think they aren't gaining sufficient weight. I can see the breast bone more prominently in those two than the other bigger floofs.

What to do? Idk my options but I know I can't kill them if needed. 😭 😢 😥

As hard as it is I think it is severe enough to cull the chicks. It doesn't get better it only gets worse.

Wet mash is much easier for them to eat but with that severity I don't know if it would be enough.
