From egg to chick!

Pics
Pictures of the babies ❤️ Had to refill their water with warm water as it had ice in it this morning! It usually doesn't get below freezing much, but I guess it did last night even though the low was 36. They acted like they were dying of thirst. (Lies bc they had a full water bucket yesterday afternoon and it was still a quarter full this morning. Spoiled babies...)

You can see my roo, Snape, circling the pen. What you can't tell is he is cooing at them the entire time.

Atropos (formerly known as Posey)

@2ndTink So is this baby a satin? Since she isn't fuzzy? Most the babies have a head feather that sticks up like my Olive Egger, Olivia Newton John.

I'm going to say a silkie mix, if she's a silkie mix she won't have as much of the silkie traits, like her beak looks too long and straight, we'll see how she develops, but she might be a 50/50 silkie mix. Whereas a satin should have the silkie structure but just have smooth feathers.

(I'm just starting to learn so I may be wrong!)

Either way she's at least part silkie which is AWESOME!

Definitely part silkie. That dark skin and beak and the five toes. If she stays a she, then she gets to stay. Same for Dolly, Nico, and possibly a couple others. I currently have 20 chickens. I wanted 10 max. 🤣 I will want more in the spring, so I need to sell a few babies.

I wanted 8 max and I have 50 something and I think it will be over 60 once the wilkies hatch 🤣

PS - don't leak the number to the hubby 🤣🤣🤣 it's safer when I just don't count so I can honestly say "I'm not sure" when he asks...
