From egg to chick!

And now I have ideas for a kids book.

Olivia made a second egg this morning. Right in the middle of the sleep area. I need to get the box up asap. I made a decent little area out of the nest she made for herself but I guess she said nvm. Might use our cat's old litter box and take the flip door off. Idk.

Anywho. The second egg is a tad darker and rounder. Slightly bigger too. It is more of a light olive shade. I think she is gonna be a light brownish olive type egger. Hopefully the speckles stay cause those are cute.

I did go to pick her up and she immediately squatted when u put my hand on her back. Picked her up, told her thank you, that she was doing a great job, and how purrty she was. She talked back the entire time Wait til she meets Snape up close and personal. I wonder what their babies would look like.

Wonder which of my pullets will be the next one to drop an egg?

Congratulations! She is doing a great job! Using buckets as nesting boxes are a good option. Do you have any?

No but I do have a covered cat litter box with a flap

The flap is likely to be a turn-off. Get some plastic cartons and fill them with the nesting materials of your choice. They are cheap, relatively durable, and the girls love them

Anything will work, the crates that @fluffycrow uses are great! I've used laundry baskets, cardboard boxes, even pet carriers.

Ok, so who is going to work on hen training methods for this and then share the tried and true method for teaching this to all our hens?

Like, lay one out and each girl drops an egg into an empty slot? Leaves it easier to package. No work for us lol.
