from fine, to sick, to dead, all in one day

Good Morning. I had a chick, guess she was about 3 weeks to one month old get sick and die all in one day. The other two chicks are fine. She was a bright and alert little thing, then yesterday was lethargic, one wing droopy, and sleepy while standing. Poops were normal and butt was clean. I started Sulmet immediately in case it was cocci, and she drank often. Last night she was sleeping in a corner by herself, not in the group as usual. This morning she was dead. Of course, this was my favorite one. Any ideas?

I have had chickens for over 10 years now. Losing one still hurts so much. I actually loved this little chick. *sniff*

thank you both. I think I know what happened. I think she ate a bug and couldnt process it. I shouldnt have had the babies out on ground like that. Now, I know better.

Really?? So sorry to hear about your wee chick.

I have a concern now though as I let my hen and her chicks free range all the time. Mine are about 3 weeks old. I wasn't aware of this being a concern....YIKES.
