Back in April I was ready to cancel my chick order because I was so overwhelmed with the thought of building a coop and run. Well many of you gave me support and I'm pleased to say that the coop is done! We converted some of our shed to the coop and it turned out really cute. The chicks are in the coop and they are about 6 weeks now. Problem now is that we have reached a paralysis in starting the run. We have little experience in building so my dad who lives in Montana gave us a list of materials to buy and walked us through what to do. Here's the problem. There is a cement pad right next to the shed tha is around 10 by 10. We are building our run 16 by 12. So we are using the cement pad plus grass area around it. My dad wants us to lay 6 by 4 treated lumber as the foundation on all four sides. We can't really do that on the side closest to the shed/coop because the cement pad butts up to the shed . So do we just lay three sides and somehow attach the run to the shed on that other side? Ahhhh we really need to get hopping on this because those chicks need more space! Pic above (ignore the junk on the cement pad) . Any advice would be great!

Assuming you are going to have a pop door from the shed into the run, I would do as you say and use the shed as the 4th wall. No reason to build another one in front of it. You can attach side posts to the side of the shed, then come out as far as you want to and drop your corner posts.

Ok I have a question about that. I think my dad wanted me to lay 6 by 4 as the foundation to build on but he didn't say anything about burying posts. I'm thinking I might have to switch up the design... Oh and yes the automatic door is already in place from the shed to the cement pad area.
