So, final count, I’ve got 12 baby chickens running around with 2 moms, one of the coops is elevated, good for my back, but one weeks of pure stress trying to get the baby chickens in our out, I do have a ladder, at first, it was too slippery, so I put some gras sods on it, and now it’s fine ,mommy just uses her wings, so her kids don’t know how to enter or leave it

Today is day 4, some of the smarter ones figured out at least how to get down

The other hen is doing well with her 5 offspring, but...there was a 6. baby chick, which was the runt of the litter, I took care of it, and it did make some progress, but yesterday moring, I found it dead beside the mom I knew it was a long shot, at first, it could not even see, but it started opening its eyes and pecking, but I think the largest problem was it didn’t really get fluffy like it’s siblings

It’s been ages since I last updated my thread, too much to do, too little time I now have some extra time, cos I broke my big toe 1day before Christmas, was in a hurry to bake the last cookies, and fell over the dog it’s quite complicated, cos the bone broke in more than 1 place and it’s in the joint, so I had to go into a hospital to get it fixed , and now I have 3 wires sticking out of my big toeanyways, right now I have 22 chickens, 6 young hens, 2 are laying and 16 older ones, they have started pecking my oldest hen Gin (10 years) right now I am not sure what to do about that she is kind of slow so the others have started picking on her, I don’t want to separate her, but it can’t go on like this. I really have to start selling a few hens, right now I have 2 chicken houses, but since I am not really supposed to walk a lot, it is very hard taking care of them right now..I am very attached to my chickens, so I have not put them up for sale yet, and usually the people only want young chickens. I am thinking about selling some of my broody hens with fertilized eggs... I don’t have a rooster, but know a lot of people who do, so that would be easy ....
My poor ducks got killed by the fox, since we have a solid fence around our place I felt sure the fox wouldn’t get in, we haven’t had one on our property for all the years I have been keeping chickens (10 years) but now I know he can somehow get in

Sounds like you're having more than your share of challenges.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Many years ago, I read an article that referring to tripping over a dog or cat as "pet fall paralysis." It's stuck with me because of the countless times I've fallen either because I didn't see a critter or tried to save it from being squished by sacrificing myself. Best wishes for your recovery.

My Buff Orp, Honey, is the oldest of my chickens, and she's slowing down. Thankfully, she still has enough spunk to peck at the others when she finds them annoying. But, she has a permanent limp, and I'm worried that she will be deposed as the queen some day. Hope Gin is faring okay.

Also sorry about your ducks. Sometimes seems like nothing will keep a determined predator at bay.

I hope you get something worked out with your chickens that feels okay to you. I know how hard it is to take care of critters when you've sustained a major injury ( fractured pelvis a few years back). Just do your best. It's all anyone -- including you -- can expect.

I thought now I have some time, I can show you the dog I used to have, she was a rescue, somebody tied her to a tree and left her to die of thirst and hunger the people which rescued her already had 3 dogs, ans she was a kind of only one dog a family kind of dog. We got her , she was exceptionally tall, and vould run like the wind, we had a stretch of road where the cars were going 31 m/hr and when I biked on the side with her they just looked , but after 5 minutes we were still there, they really stared Since she has very long legs, she sat like a human , I had to let her go 2007 when she suffered a gastric torsion with 12,5 yearssuch a great dog, absolutely loving in the family

How wonderful that you were able to love her and give her the best possible life for as long as you could! She was lovely, and I'm sure she is still a part of your heart.

A pox on anyone who ties a dog to a tree and leaves it!!!

Here is one of the 4 Lavender Araucana hens, 3 of them insist on roosting in the ( not predator safe) coop, so every night I have to pick them up and put them in the chicken house
