yesterday, it was quite windy and damaged part of the roof over their run I put it up a few years ago with my son, he has very long arms and is tall(er than me) ,son now lives 550 km away with his little family and hubby isn’t interested in chickens, so now I am on my own, and can’t figure out how to fix it ….

little Caro, hen from last year, daughter of Caro, was very shy at first, she finally started laying eggs about 2 weeks ago, and is starting to get tamer

I guess not all the crappy stuff is over; so sorry about your roof. I can't really figure out what the roof is made of, but maybe -- with a ladder -- you can attach something temporary until someone can help you?

It's tough when things like that happen, and you are on your own. A couple of years ago, half a tree fell on my red coop. While it survived with only some bent metal roofing, there was no way I could move the tree off of it.

Thankfully, a friend's husband and nephews came over, cut it up and hauled it away. But, things like that make me feel helpless, and I don't at all like that feeling.

On the brighter side, your surviving hens are lovely. Congrats on little Caro's eggs. Now, let's try again on getting all the bad stuff behind you! You deserve a break!!

Thanks for caring the roof of the run is made out of a stiff plastic , I am thinking about putting a tin sheet on top of the broken plastic sheet, and screw it on.
I had a bad experience with a 9 ton ( metric) oak on my roof in 2017, thank God I had a very well connected neighbor, he and another neighbor managed to beg, cajole all the helpers we needed, to get the tree off our roof ( we had a bad storm, trees were almost on at least 1 house in every street, you couldn’t get a roofer for either love or money) , since the oak was full with leaves, the wind would have eventually born down on the rest of our roof. We got a special crane to lift the tree off, after 2 helpers had cut it smaller for 10 hrs. removing as many branches as possible without killing themselves.

The tree is lying on our house on the right, I can imagine your worry!!

Your tree was much more damaging than mine! Thank goodness you got some folks to help.

The tin sheet sounds workable to me.

Haven’t posted in ages, life got in the way, the nice hubby of a friend fixed the roof I had some health issues which needed to be dealt with, so I didn’t have chickens for 1.5 years, I finally got mine back in December last year minus 3 chickens, 2 died ( 8 and 11.5 years old) and the other one had been picked on by my other chickens and stayed at my friends place where they were staying while I was getting “fixed” , she finally got some friends. After Christmas a friend gifted me a beautiful hen and the obligatory rooster, today, I got a not wanted visitor in form of a healthy bold fox, he got one of my hens, but she hid, so when I came home, I found out one of the chickens was missing, and when I found her, she was hurt quite badly, I drove to the vet with her, he treated her but said it didn’t look very promising when I got back home, my hubby called me, there was this fox, standing on the road, calmly waiting for me to get my camera before that, I wasn’t sure what had hurt the hen …

Hope your injured hen pulls through!

The nerve of that fox! At least the predators I've dealt with have run off.

So, checked the hen this morning, she is still alive, a bit of a raspy breath, though, but she is getting antibiotics, so they should take care of it she came out of the house on her own and drank
like there was no tomorrow, I think she hadn’t had a drink since the attack yesterday, I am hoping wound is dry and clean

My hen made it she isn’t completely out of the woods, but eating, flying , scratching so if nothing bad happens, she is good
Here she is, flying off something, you can see the black under her wing, that is where she was attacked

I took some pictures, I don’t dare letting them out unless I am there too, but as usual, too much to do, too little time ..
