Retired in 2014, I have raised chickens since 1989 when a colleague on my new job asked me if I wanted a couple of chicks. I said "No", went home, told my husband and he said "Yes, take them." Unbeknownst to both us at the time, his Dad had been the chicken keeper as a boy in Germany before the WW2 tore the country apart. He found this out years later from another relative! Anyway, two led to seven led to XXX chicken math! We had a huge home flock for years selling eggs to neighbors and a local organic bakery. When my job moved me West in 2008, as part of the yard renovation we put in a chicken coop in 2010, not as nice as the one in MA but good enough for 10-15 birds and we are at it again, raising chicks and selling eggs to the neighbors! Throughout it all, we have had a series of trusty Australian Cattle Herding dogs to guard the flock.
