Frost bite or something else?

Hey there!

I have a bresse rooster that has a pretty large comb and lately it’s developed a distinct purple color on the edges and became very smooth there. I’ve dealt with some frost bite before, but it’s never looked like this for me. I’m wondering if it’s something else? He’s also had mites, I’ve treated the flock for it and haven’t seen them since, but he still shakes his head often throughout the day as though something is bugging him. Any ideas?

I forgot to mention, it has not been that cold here… like it’s not been freezing temps for a couple of months and this is more recent, which is why I’m confused.
