I’m not a newbie. I’ve just about seen it all, except for this. I’ve scoured the forums trying to find someone else with similar issue to no success.

Look at the attached photos please.

Silkie Rooster-Almost 1 year old. Mereks vaccinated.

This began when I noticed (almost too late) that he had a severe case of lice & mites. After several baths in flea/tick shampoos, even a dandruff shampoo, and me physically picking these things off, it’s still an issue. The lice/mites are gone & im working at eliminating lice from the rest of my flock but he had it the worst.

He’s also been treated with Ivermectin drops on his skin. NutriDrench in his water and high protein feed.

Another issue is that he feels like he has tumors on the back of his neck, right behind his head. You can’t see in the photos but they are about the size of large grapes. They are sore because he doesn’t like me to touch them. Doesn’t look like feather cysts.

His feet pads also look like they are coming off. I put Vasaline on his legs because I figured maybe scaly leg mites?

He still eats and drinks fine. He doesn’t seem like he’s dying, just not comfortable. He’s isolated. Lice/mites are no issue, I promise. But I’m wondering if that’s what caused the flaking. The flaking crusts were there when the lice/mites were there.

Questions:
Are these flakes from the lice?

Is this cutaneous Mereks? (I had the neural Mereks in my flock in 2020.)

Is this Favus around his comb? Or is this some fungal infection?

Can I give him something orally?

Does he have leg mites?

What else can I try? I have Monistat and other fungal meds.

The flaky crusts are literally on every single feather shaft, but worse on his neck, especially where those tumor like cysts are.

I feel like it’s Mereks but I don’t have the heart to cull him when he acts normal.

The flakes will not wash off. They have to be picked off.

Once you have Marek's in your flock, it's there to stay. So yes, this could be Marek's related. But we should treat the symptoms in case it's something else.

It's possible this is something similar to dandruff in humans, a super secretion of sebum. Get a dandruff shampoo and make a spray solution with it, water and a few tablespoons of shampoo mixed into a quart spray bottle. Spray all exposed skin twice a day.

You can also order Medistatin which can fight fungus and yeast. It gets sprinkled over his food.
