My brown leghorns have frostbite on their combs. Its yellow, I think purple pink, and some black. What should I do?!?!?! How can I keep it from going down the whole comb? Its covers just about all of the points on the comb, but hasn't reached the base yet. Also, how do I tell if their feet start to get it? How to prevent?

Thanks so much!!!!!!

Frostbite will usually only get the tips. Apply vaseline on the combs every few days, this will prevent more frostbite. The toes will start turning dark if they are taking frostbite, very uncommon in chickens that roost though.

You'll need to evaluate the ventilation inside your coop.
Moisture builds up from a combination of things.
Chickens exhaling.
Droppings create moisture. (Clean daily.)
Don't leave water in the coop.
Protect the comb and wattles with bagbalm or something similar, gently now though, since there is already tissue damage.
