I noticed this morning that HeiHei (my Polish rooster) had weird colored toes, blue and purple, and now I came home to one of his toes bleeding and blood all over the coop. It’s only him and I rushed him into the house to clean and bandage the wound. Now he’s in the garage in a cage with a towel, and I’m scared he’ll lose most of his toes since about 4 have frostbite on them. I don’t know how I didn’t notice it before! I’m really worried...will he lose his toes? Is it possible that they could heal eventually?

What else should I do to possibly save the toes or at least keep him comfortable or prepare for them to fall off....I’m very stressed, please tell me something good! :hit

Are you sure this isn't the result of another pecking his toes? Are your perches such that one chicken can reach up and grab the toes of the chicken that's above? If it is frost bite and not too bad the toes will heal. Should the toes be froze through, yes, theywill fall off. However, should that happen, he will still be able to do all that a chicken does.

My chickens with huge combs sometimes get frostbite, but it usually heals in spring when it's not too severe. Keep her warm!
