Ugh, seems like its never ending today. My 3rd ER thread. Chickens, don't they just love to worry us.
Went out to lock everyone put tonight and noticed by Serama roo, Bridie had a purple line across his comb. Maybe a couple blisters as well. The tip of his head seemed to be leaking some fluid? I brought him inside and have him setup in a 45F room, with access to food and water. I added a chunk of fire wood with a pointed edge as well for a perch. He seems happy, making adorable clucking noises.
Suggestions for his comb?
It looks slightly darker in person, but the photo shows it fairly well.

It might be early stages of frostbite. I would not handle the comb at all.
How much ventilation is in the housing?
I haven't touched it, just brought in inside. Theres lots of ventilation. Their coop is rabbit hutch style, and the 3rd/front wall is open with hardware cloth. It was a Craigslist buy since we needed a coop for the tractor. I put plastic over the hardware cloth for the winter/cold spike, but theres still plenty of ventilation from the door.
Plus, he prefers to sleep in the free standing perch in the run since its the highest. The run is completely open so no lack of ventilation there.

Then it may be from exposure if he's perching in the run. Hopefully it's not too bad and he won't loose any tips. Warming him a bit, then putting in the protected hutch may help prevent frostbite overnight, but birds that are outside in cold weather often just suffer from some exposure during the day from moisture and wind.

These were my thoughts as well. Should I keep him inside until it dissipates? Will it dissipate? I don't want to keep him in to long to the point were he looses his cold hardiness. I can control the temperature in that room as much as I like if that helps at all.

The purple comb stripe could be from the cold, but it doesn't appear to be frost bite. It's a bit concerning that this roo is sleeping in the run. Is he exposed to the cold wind? That would be a problem.
It doesn't get to windy here for the most part. The occasional gust, but usually pretty calm. There would be exposure to wind if it did start to gust, but the perch is positioned so that it should protect them from snow/rain.
I had this same thought, and want to see if I can add an additional perch to the coop that is higher for him. Then start putting him on that at night.

Personally, I would put him back, but in a protected area if he's alert/bright, eating/drinking. He's a little feller, so you decide if he can handle to low temps that you are experiencing right now.
You don't want him too warm that's for sure if you are going to put him back out tomorrow.

I think I'll wait to put him out until tomorrow. Keep the kennel setup so I can bring him in at night if I think its to cold. Supposed to warm up after tomorrow night, so hopefully he'll be alright outside after that. :)
Try to get a higher perch installed tomorrow, since he doesn't seem to be fazed by his chilly comb. Thanks for the help!
