As long as the hen was safe from predators on the floor where she was able to stay warm was the best place.

One of my girls has gotten a case of frostbite on her comb, we brought her in and put triple antibiotic on it but she just looks so miserable, must e painful. We put her back out in the coop because she did not like being in the house. When my husband went out to check on her she was on the floor not the roost, I think he should have put her up on the roost but he didn't want to bother her. How long before she is feeling better?

Check feet. Frostbite of comb should not interfere with roosting behavior.

Her feet are fine, thanks for the advice though. I think she was just more comfortable on the floor last night. It's got a thick layer of deep litter on it. Coop is definitely predator free.

We opened a window about 3 inches to add extra ventilation.

Hi guys! Sorry I haven't been around for a LONG time.Just as an update my hen't comb is doing very well. She lost a tiny, little bit off of the top of one of her spikes but other than that eveything has been red and healthy. In late December and early January was soooo cold! I checked on the weather and it said that that has been the coldest January since 1874! Can you believe that! (I live in Utah bytheway.) Also we had freezing rain. It is where the ground is colder than the rain or something like that and when the rain hits the ground it freezes! I was walking to school and the sidewalks were frozen over with ice. The road was a little better but not a lot. Here's a link so you can watch it.

It takes awhile for the frostbitten part to fall off. I had one who go frost bite back in the first part of December and just now lost the frostbitten part of her comb. She looks good now.
