Frostbitten Comb- Vaseline Didn't Work

I probabally shouldnt tell you this, But I spray a little bit of WD-40 on a rag and wipe their combs. It was designed to repel moisture among hundreds of other uses. Its not made for frostbite prevention but repels the over abundance of moisture which does create frostbite. A word of caution on the label concerned me about continuous exposure. So far, no problems. I know it sounds crazy, but it works!

Thanks everyone for your advice! Daisy's comb is getting better, but she's still in the house, because of a humungous blizzard yesterday, that dumped 3 feet of snow onto our pastures. She sure isn't happy about not being able to go outside with her friends.

That's good news about Daisy! My guineas aren't happy about the snow, either!

We had a -0 night last night, on top of 2 ft of snow. My roo's wattle is badly swollen and he doesn't seem in pain, but definitely uncomfortable. I but Bag Balm on it and massaged it, then fed corn and warmish watter. He seems better but is still shivering. Any suggestions about this?

Thus, my descision to get Sumatras: they hardly have any comb or wattles, even though I like combs and wattles.

Her comb may now be runied for show purposis but her DNA is alive and well. Like breeds like, so raise some more from her.

My mom had that same idea before you She's in a breeding pen with Foghorn Leghorn, our show-quality Leghorn cock (we don't show him tho) I hope we get some good show-chicks that follow in the footsteps of their momma ... becoming a 3 time first place winner!
