How do you know if your chickens have mites and lice? What do mites and lice look like?

Thank you!

I'm sorry you lost your girl. The good news (if you can call it "good news") is that freezing to death doesn't "hurt" like so many other ways we could loose our birds...

What do you mean it doesn't "hurt"? If I was to go out side now with what I am waring, I can guarantee it would hurt.

Yeah, I know....what I mean is that when someone freezes to death, once they get past the initial shivering stuff and things go "numb" they start to lose consciousness and sort of drift off, eventually the body temp drops enough that body functions cease altogether...kind of like when someone bleeds to death...

I would agree if those were our normal temps, and if we didn't keep a close eye on our animals health. Early last week it was almost 70 and above freezing at night. It was almost a 30 degree drop from yesterday to today without the wind chill. The hens are all huddled up together right now, or they were until I tossed a bucket of scratch into the coop.

Here is a picture of my horses water trough. I've had to break the ice 4 times today so they could drink. I'm just really really glad I decided to disconnect the animals water and drain the hoses. I am NOT doing any plumbing until it warms up!

Here is my "puppy" on my queen size bed. My big foot warmer who isn't usually allowed into the house simply because of the "reach" factor. She takes up the whole couch!

Y'all can have the cold. Something about snow covered cactus just doesn't look right. I really miss S. Tx right now.
