Frozen pine shavings?

Update:

The frozen bale of wood shavings took 8-10 days then suddenly sprung forth; reminded me why I use coarse shavings - fluffs and encases waste very effectively. This is our 3rd day of ~0C temps.

I also added a bag of pellets, have not yet changed their shape, perhaps today.

The accumulation of waste on original shavings has been rock hard nuggets in a soft bed; now softening and threats a stinky pile of s**t. Need to get bedding out... bedding is moist to kneel on.

thanks for the update!
the recent warm days gave us a window for coop cleaning! just replaced our beddings as well - although ours is a very small operation compared to yours. Nevertheless, chickens are happy with their bedroom service.
