I made some treats for my chickens so they don’t get over heated
I made frozen treats what I did was I mixed cantaloupe ,carrot ,and lettuce and mixed it into a little salad then I mashed some bananas and put it in the mold and put the salad on top then I put some water on it and put it in the freezer for the night I plan on giving it to them in the morning when they get let out I will tell the byc community in the morning of how they like it I am open to any more summer chicken hack and treats and I would like to know some hacks and treat for winter to

I am open to any more summer chicken hack
I don't give treats, let alone frozen ones.
But these have worked well for me, especially the EL's:

could I mist my chickens on really hot days with a mist setting on a hose
It only really helps much if you live in an arid climate.

Welcome to BYC! @Show chick
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

I give my chickens their food wetted into a mash as their main snack. I can make it warm in the winter, or cool in the summer, like in the 90s we're going to have for the next several days.

Today I took out 2 gallons of cold water. I poured one gallon into the low spots where they've been dust bathing. Then I dumped out their water bowl, and poured the other gallon of cold water into the bowl. I'm sure it wasn't cold for very long.

Tomorrow, I'll give them small pieces of cut up watermelon with their mash. 1/2" square chunks, something to peck at. After hubby and I finish the melon, they'll get the rind.

I have made the mistake of giving them too much watermelon... yeah, diarrhea.

That's one reason mine only get the frozen rinds.......all that sweet fruit flesh is for me!
So my momma was fibbing when she told us growing up that eating the watermelon rind would give us belly aches? Or was dad wrong when he told us to try them, they'll put hair on your chest? 🤔

I stick oversized zucchinis from garden in freezer, cut them in half and feed on very hot days. Like this week very hot here so put a few in freeze last night and they will get some midday today as heat peaks. All my birds love them including Turkeys/Ducks/Quail. Winter, I like to drill hole through whole frozen heads of cabbage and hang in pens for birds to slowly peak away. This helps keep them active on very cold days. Both in moderation :thumbsup
