Oh, your all scaring me! I just ordered eggs off ebay today.... The ebayer has 1735 feeback with 100% Positive, so thats a good sign, although only 4-5 feedbacks i read are for eggs, oh well, I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope

I was talking to an ebayer a month ago, and I am sure he told me that Ebay changed their rules, and will not be responsible now for something you get that is not right? We quit Ebay and check with Craigslist, at least you don't have to bid, and so far we have done real well. There is an animal auction in Waterloo, Illinois the last Week-end of every month starting this month, so want to go there too! I heard you get really good deals, but to watch out for disease and keep them quarantined (spelling!

) for a month before introducing them into your flock, or herd . ..

I buy alot of stuff from ebay, but not eggs. I also sell a few things here and there. One thing I look for is someone with a positive rating above 99%. Twice I decided to go with someone at 98% because the deal was that good and I got burned. Now, I will even pay a bit more for someone that has 100% over someone with a 99%.
The other thing is I NEVER over pay for shipping because the item is less expensive, even if the final cost is less. I am not talking about paying a dollar or two to cover materials, I mean items that are way opver charged. The reason is, if you pay $15 shipping and $10 for the item, they will usually offer your money back, but not your shipping costs. I see these guys as nothing more that crooks.
For eggs, I just wait until I find someone local to do business with. If you find someone local on ebay (or here) that won't let you pick up the item, RUN AWAY. Chances are they don't want an angry customer showing up at their house demanding a refund. These kind of crooks don't want to look you in the eye.
One more thing. Report him and leave feedback! Even if you don't get a dime, maybe you will help the next person.

Been thru similar deal on ebay ,wasn't chickens but live corals (the worst hundred bucks I ever spent) after that I decided, I was never ordering anything alive off of e-bay again.

Ebay is the land of massive fraud when it comes to hatching eggs, I'm afraid.

Look at all the threads on here about auctions where people steal pics from breeders, hatcheries etc., even from people overseas, and sell eggs as though those pics were their own stock.

On the Marans Chicken Club yahoo group, topics just came up about this. A seller of Marans eggs stole pics directly from Ron Presley's site and was selling eggs as though the pics and eggs were theirs. Another seller stole a pic of eggs from the Marans Chicken Club site and was selling eggs using that pic.

If you want to buy eggs from someone on ebay, type the breed name into a google images search, and see if any pics come up that match the pics in the auction. That will tip you off right away that the seller is a fraud. It seems that over half of the ebay hatching egg auctions are frauds, or people selling junk to people who don't know better.

Very frustrating. Oh, and these frauds often have 100% positive feedback. The feedback is left when the eggs are delivered, remember, not after the birds have been hatched and raised. So if people are hatching junk from what was supposed to be quality, it wouldn't reflect in the feedback.

I have purchased one set of chicken eggs and several different of quail eggs and never had a problem. In fact, my chicken eggs were the best hatch I ever had on shipped chicken eggs. I have purchased other eggs from BYC people - including those who ebay - and will again without problems. I do realize that shipping eggs affects the hatch and chalk that up to why I have had low percentages of hatches from shipped eggs other than ebay. I have also had eggs shipped to me from private party that hatched out a chicken with a major fault. All in all hatching eggs are your own risk I think.

I sell most of my eggs on Ebay, so everyone there is not a gangster. There are people who misrepresent things though. Some through ignorance, and some deliberately. A couple of the top people selling Marans eggs on Ebay are still bilking novices with falsely selling EEs as Ameraucanas/Araucanas. I contacted one who is also a BYC member and was told to mind my own darn business. I personally would not do business with either, because I feel if you can lie about one thing you can definitely lie about another.

Feedback does not accurately provide the sellers reputation, but you should check it anyway and read it closely.

I got my eggs on EBAY and was very pleased. I ordered 12+ and got 18 with none broke:DEleven were developing well but I only have one chick-with 2 more hatching. The one that hatched looks like a good quality and is healthy and beautiful. It is my first time hatching, so the problems are my fault. His name is roosters-n-hens.
