Frustrated with usps

How do you know if you should have the eggs held at the post office or delivered to your house? My neighbor swears that the post office doesn't hold them correctly and she has had eggs get lost for days when she requests them held at the post office. Any advice for how to get the post office to hold them?

Never have eggs, chicks, honeybees or any other animal delivered to the house.
I once had 3 queen bees that came early and were delivered to the house. They spent a couple hours in the mailbox in the blazing July sun. Needless to say, they were all dead.
One can't expect a mailman to know what to do with them (though mine will put them on the back porch if I ask him to do so).
Speak to the local postmaster in person a day or two in advance of the animals/eggs arrival so they are aware. Get the phone number of the sorting room from that person.
The regular phone number won't get answered until business hours. They will answer the sorting room phone. On the day your stuff is due, or even a day earlier, ask if your package has arrived. Better still, show up at the PO, go to the back door and knock or ring. It's your stuff and your PO. If it is bees or chicks, they'll be happy to get rid of them. I have the sorting room number in permanent marker on one of m feed bins.
Bring a camera and open the package (except for bees) to look for damage.
