I am new to the chicken business. And I have bought 31 Cornish jumbo chicks from Rural King. Does anyone know how long it'll be until I can put them in the coop. They have feathers on their wings.

What is a good chicken that lays white eggs.

Aren't Cornish, broilers? Because if they are, they typically go from the brooder to the freezer @ 6 weeks.

Yes, that is what I have heard from other people who have had Cornish. And white leghorns are good for white eggs right? Also what is the life time of an average chicken?

Bill, it depends on your setup and how warm it is where you are. I live in MN, and the last time I had chicks, (a couple of years ago), I had them in the coop from day 1. My "brooder" was 4" plastic lawn edging, fastened together in an oval shape with two heat lamps over it. There was plenty of room for all 50 chicks under the light at night, and for them to get away from it during the day. If you don't have other chickens in the coop, something like this could work for you.

Around here, their lifespan is 2-3 years, and then we butcher the spent layers to make room for new ones. So, I can't give you a good answer to that question. Check out the forum, though, and you will find lots of good information. Go to the search bar at the top and type in "Average Lifespan of a Chicken."
