It’s hot here in PA, the chickens decided to try cooking an egg on the concrete. Seriously, someone laid an egg on the back porch yesterday afternoon. The first thing I heard was my husband ask “what are they eating?”, and I spot Mika and the three roosters pecking at an egg yolk. I shooed them away and cleaned up the mess, but there was no sign of shell anywhere. The hen I suspect laid the egg has been laying daily for the past two weeks, could this just be her system working out the kinks? Also, is there a risk that they will start pecking at shelled eggs? I have ceramic eggs in all the boxes and we collect eggs promptly (we have cameras on the nest boxes and kids are off for the summer, he he). Not sure whether to freak out or not. Thanks!
