Yep shipped eggs are both a blessing and a curse! I candled again on Friday night and I think I am at 7 quitters

That still leaves me with 10 shipped eggs and 3 of my own. Wow, time is counting down FAST!

I'm down to 86 eggs either in my bator or under my broody with hatches scheduled from May 30th to June 14th with 13 ducks scattered thru the mix.

I pulled 1 last night from my own girls that had a blood ring. I had it marked from the last time I candled it & made sure I checked it again. I didn't candle all the eggs last night, just a couple from each batch to make sure I was getting development. 87 is way too many to candle at once. In the ones I did candle there were definitely a couple wigglers in some of the older eggs. A couple were questionable, but also had darker shells, so I left them there. I don't want to throw anything out that is viable.

10 more days til my 1st batch hatch.

I also have Lemon Cuckoo Orps in mine. Also, Lavender Orps, Blue Cochins, Silkies, assorted ducks & several BYM & project birds.

I will have extra Orps, so contact me if interested in my surplus

sorry to hear that I had the same problem first time tryng had 30 plus eggs none hatched this time started out with 30 something down to 25 I think i've lost a total of 8 or 9. but rest are bouncing in their shells hope some start hatching on tuesday wishful thinking just can't wait for the babies

Shipping live chicks is expensive. From what I understand day old chicks are the best so they don't starve after that I think it is 8 weeks old.

Sounds good!

Alright it is countdown week, where does everyone stand and what day do you go into lockdown?

I use egg cartons to hatch mine, what do you use?

I have an overloaded bator with hatchings scheduled every few days between May 30th & June 14th. I don't think there will really be so much a "lockdown" as it will be "don't turn those eggs" & "don't open the bator while there are active hatches"...LOL

With such a staggered hatch I know I will end up opening the bator when I shouldn't, but I have found my humidity raises very high very quickly with minimal water added, so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm more worried about drowning my later hatches than shrink wrapping any.
