Full spectrum bulbs?

Maybe I am wrong, but aren't the ancestors of chickens native to tropical/subtropical areas? So if you could provide the approximate hours of sun that occur naturally at that latitude, and still be within bounds of what nature naturally provides. Of course, choosing to provide what your local climate would naturally provide is an acceptable choice also.

So they earn their keep, no paid sabatticals, but they get early retirement. Sounds fair to me.

A lot of people talk about adding a full spectrum light to the coop to help with egg production. Is this s special light or as simple as buying one of those "reveal" light bulbs that claims to have fuller spectrum of colors (these are sold as regular house bulbs).

Could be psychosomatic, but I do change out my regular bulbs with the "spectrum" bulbs in the winter and feel much better.
my concern for full spectrum lights would be for the benefit of sunshine (Vit. D) which is needed for strong bones
