I am looking for others who are raising Leghorns, it doesn't matter if they are white, Light Brown, or Dark Brown. I am raising 10 pullets that are Light Brown. I bought all female chicks and got 10 pullets and 1 cockrel. They will be hens on July 1, and then there is our Cockrel who we keep seperate since our girls are much smaller then him.
Leghorns have amazing egg size, and quanity. Our girls generally lay an egg a day and they are good size eggs too. Wonderful flavor and amazing cooking, baking and high in protein.
Since Leghorns are layers not meat birds they do have needs to keep their muscle and general great health. My girls are fed- 1 Part flock Raiser, 1 Part Layer Crumble, 1/4 part chicken scratch (Chicken Lucky Charms) & some flax seed. My girls are fouragers and have the full backyard to fourage as well 5 bowls of the mix well moistened that they love during the day. They have feed in their individual cooping areas. I am looking to fatten up my girls or at least muscle up their breast area, any ideas please comment. My girls are Organic so no meds but anything other ideas bring it on.
