Fun Day at the Lake.....Gone Very BAD :( *Updated* *Added Pics*

No, they have not done any surgery on her hip or spleen. I really don't know how bad her hip fracture is...my mom said it's really bad, but they have her on crutches already, so I guess it's not THAT bad...I dunno.

They didn't want to do surgery...not even on the spleen laceration...unless absolutely necessary because of the risk of pneumonia. The combination of her asthma and broken ribs put her at a high risk if she's intubated.

Well, my sis isn't doing so great today

she's had a bit of a setback. She's been very tired all day, and her blood count is way down due to internal bleeding from the spleen. She's on the verge of needing a blood transfusion, which I thought she was "out of the woods" for. I really think she over-did it yesterday. She'll be in the hospital at least several more days...until her blood count stabilizes.

*Warning, Graphic* She's also been very nauseous, and this morning she vomited all the food she ate yesterday. She's barely been able to eat anything, and then it came back up. That doesn't sound good at all...she's not digesting her food...and obviously she needs the nutrients to repair herself and continue making blood to keep up with the internal bleeding. Ugh.

Could she maybe drink Ensure or Boost? It kept me going when I had my jaw wired. Maybe it would be easier to hold down than solid food. You can get them with estra protein or calcium. Ask here care tech if that might be an option for her. Poor thing.

they should be able to feed her and give her, her nutrients with out her having to eat.....also, it really sounds like they need to get that internal bleeding UNDER control...or at least wait on the crutches until it repairs itself. she should only be getting up to use the bathroom......and she doesnt even have to do that either if she shouldnt......thanks for keeping us posted....you and your family are in our prayers!

edited because im an idiot

you know, i was also just thinking....her vomiting like that will do NOTHING good for her broken ribs.....they really should be doing everything to make sure that doesnt happen again....nausea meds and feeding her via iv or a tube

I couldn't agree more...they changed her pain meds to hopefully reduce the nausea, and gave her anti-nausea meds (phenegran). I agree that she should be given IV nutrients, or at least drink Ensure or something like that...however, I'm over 150 miles away and only get the updates from family, basically after the fact. I don't have any input in how they're doing things there... I wish I could be a little more hands-on

I understand that physical therapy is important, and I'm certainly not a doctor, but I really wish they'd give her a little more time to heal before getting her up on crutches...it just seems like way too much too fast. And now she's paying the price. Her blood count (red cells? hemaglobin? whatever...) has dropped to 8, and at 7 she'll need a transfusion.

I hope everything starts looking up and she can continue healing soon.
