Fun Facts We Didn't Need To Know

The longest (non-highway) street in the world is Yonge Street in Toronto. It runs 56km from the Toronto harbour on Lake Ontario at the south end, to the City of Barrie on Lake Simcoe in the north.
Lake Pontchartrain causeway about 20 min from here is the longest continously over water bridge in the world. About 90% of the work week I travel it to and from every day

Fire and rusting is the same chemical reaction (oxidization) one extremely fast the other extremely slow

The wet chemical in restaurant commercial cooking operation vent hoods fire suppression systems is a saponifying agent turning fat into soap as a means off suffocating a grease fire. The same molecular action that makes bar soap.

Foam fire suppression systems in aircraft hangers used to be made with saponifying agents and animal fat mixed together to create soap upon discharge to extinguish aircraft/jetfuel fires.

If an ABC fire extinguisher is used in the vicinity of an aircraft it is soo corrosive to aluminum it is said it can't be cleaned good enough and the entire aircraft must be condemned. The chemical will get between panels and corrode the rivets from the inside out.

Purple K dry chemical was invented by the navy and is non corrosive to aluminum and used in place of ABC around aircraft and at aircraft fuel farms.
What about Halon or FM-200 for aircraft use? Are those corrosive as well? Commonly what is used in datacenters for fire suppression.

Halon isn't legal to use new anymore. Systems in service can stay until the cylinders are due for hydrostatic testing or the system needs renovating or it discharges. Then it needs to be updated to halotron, fm200, fe36 or the newest and best Novec 1230. Good thing about Novec 1230 unlike the ones mentioned above it has a cooling affect and not hazardous to humans like the other clean agents listed above. Also halon must be reclaimed it cannot be vented to the atmosphere. It's basically a type of refrigerant
Data centers will usually be fm200 or FE36 if installed new or halotron if the system has been in service a few years
Clean agents like halotron, fm200 and fe36 won't do well in hangers cause of dissipation. Also cause the UL rating for class A fires is negligible at best. It's very well suited for B and C class fires though
