By that I meant we have to serve a certain number of "color" a week. So many red veggies, so many green and so on. So, we can't have corn twice a week because that's considered a starch. Same with peas and potatoes. And the kid has to take at least a half cup of fruit or veggie everyday. They don't have to eat it, they just have to take it. And yes, french fries are considered a veggie according to the USDA
French fries are definitely not animal, mineral fungus or protozoa
so that leaves vegetable.
 
Starchy vegetables being a sub category of vegetable.
Chickens are birds but that doesn't stop them being animals.
bear in mind, Trip isn't making the rule shere, she's stating what USDA classifies them as becuse as a lunch lady she's required to follow their rules when preparing and serving lunches to the kiddos.
