Just for fun question. What month or months do you or your hens hatch chicks or what months do you buy chicks? ( Not just from this year also include past year )

I mainly raise chickens for meat but also really enjoy playing with genetics. Eggs are a nice side benefit but I give most of them away. I typically hatch my chicks but every three or four years I'll get some new chicks for their genetics.

To avoid running out of meat I have a fairly large hatch in February. If I'm getting new chicks for genetics this is when I'll get them. I use my incubator for this.

Then I'll let three or four broody hens hatch and raise chicks in late spring and summer: May, June, and July, occasionally August. That gets me all the chicks I need for the freezer and to get replacement pullets.

I like them hatched in January to start laying going into June. Always seemed to get them into the "habit" that keeps them going through the short winter days without artificial light. Has worked for me with RIR Bar Rks and now with our Blk Aus.

I get ‘em whenever the breeds I want become available at my local feed store (usually in the spring). Or I see a breed I really want available online from a private breeder.

I plan to hatch during most of the year, but not winter. I bought my original flock last September/ October ish.

If I buy chicks it's usually around April.
My first broody hatched 5 on Aug 5, 2022. My second broody hatched 6 on June 17, 2023.
I've got 22 in incubator set to hatch April 1.

I just started hatching last year.
But i usally buy chicks in March when my local feed store gets them.

Tried a broody last year that didnt go well due to other chickens.
So i bought a cheap incubator and hatched in September or October.
I just hatched 3 weeks ago(All cockerels so they went to a good home).
Then last night i decided to do a quick run and got some Cochins and a Spitzhauben.
