Fundraising alternatives???

Handmade Christmas crafts? Ornaments? Decorations? I know I'm weak for homemade/handmade, especially when the youngsters are making them. And you have the month of November to get them done!

Hmmm.... I see a pattern here- I like it when someone actually puts some effort into what they are selling, as opposed to buying something from a manufacturer and re-selling it.

Be careful if you do a "raffle" ~ in PA you are required to purchase a "small games of chance license" in order to legally run a raffle. It may be different in your state. You can get some hefty fines if you don't do it legally.

Bake sales are a big hit. I used to man a booth for 2 days and raised over $200.
A raffle is also a good idea. The hard part is deciding what to raffle off.
Done a 1/2 a beef, a whole pig, a smoked ham and a quilt.

A couple ideas for you.
Another thought is "selling" work. A lot of people do not have the time to rake leaves, shovel walks and drive ways and other around the house things. Have the kids sell 2-3 hours of work per person.

I agree, I hate being asked to buy things (other than girlscout cookies) but love participating in bake sales, raffles, and other stuff. why not 2 raffles, a 50/50 and a donated item, like a quilt, or something else fun. probably one of the kids' parents has a business and could donate goods or services to be raffled off.

how about a spaghetti supper or a pot luck and people donate an item or service for a chinese raffle.

have a little gift bag in front of each item for instance say someone is a face painter they could donate an hr for a child's birthday party or grandma likes to crochet she could donate a baby sweater set
You sell raffle tickets $1 a piece or 6 for $5 each person goes and puts their signed ticket in the gift bag in front of the item they want to win. After everyone has eaten and hopefully bought tickets . you pick children out of the pack to come pick a ticket out of a bag.
I have donated several of my painting to these sort of events , small crafts , baskets with a movie night theme, or a basket with personal care items like lotions and soaps always do well.

Scouts had three things:

Bake sale/barbecue -- the chicken dinner sold really well!! Got the chicken donated from the supermarket... We made all of the sides, veggies and rolls, $4 a plate.

Rescue day - animal rescue day at the local park - this was a fundraiser for the rescue organizations. Lots of participants, lots of cute critters, sold pet related items, gave free classes on grooming and obedience. Had the police K9 come do a demonstration. Scouts got nothing but the rescue organizations did well and placed quite a few animals.

Clean-up -a- thon! Walk a thons always bothered me because they made such huge messes. We held a cleanup a thon to clean up a local creek. People pledged money for every pound of garbage collected. Or mile of stream cleared. Or they simply sponsored a cleaner. We got the local waste management to donate a rollback for the day and we filled that sucker!!!

It was alot of fun. The creek ended up looking great, we and the state park and the waste management people got great publicity and we raised over $2,000.
