I made a chicken rescue on Friday, and now have a beautiful buff Orpington rooster with three buff Orp hens and a buff Rock(?) hen. They are pitiful looking. The Orp hens have almost no feathers on their backs and "shoulders." The Rock is a bit bedraggled, but looks much better. They all have weird-looking feet and they aren't roosting on my roosting pole.

I have no idea whether they just can't, physically, or if they don't know how.

Thoughts?

If they're in bad as shape as you say they are than they probably just don't feel well enough to put some wood chips on the floor of the coop for them. Once they get a little better give them a low roost to perch on. Good luck! Once I had a rescue duck.....

They have several lower to the gound wooden structures to perch on, as well as 12-14 inches of pine shavings on the floor. It's just that wide boards make coop cleanup harder and more frequent.
