Well it's a half hour drive to get to a sprouts, trader joes, jimbos or any of the other organic places. There is a farmers market here in town but it's not that impressive. :/ there's a bigger one "down the hill" but again that's a 20-30 minute drive.
I debate signing up for one of those veggie delivery things (weekly organic local fruits veggies delivery) but hubs can be picky with his eating too. :/
I live in a small rural town where the only grocery store is 10 minutes, Wal-Mart and Home Depot are 30 minutes, and any real "city" is 2 hours, so 20 - 30 minutes to a farmer's market is standard for me. A former city girl, I've had to learn to adjust my shopping methods accordingly.
CSAs can be good, but you don't always get a choice of veggies. Do you have a place where you can grow a few veggies? If you keep it small, they don't take that much time. You can even grow in pots or tubs (I have my asparagus in a galvanized horse trough and, since it's a perennial, It requires only occasional applications of compost.)
Since I, too, travel that far for fresh/organic, I buy in bulk and freeze or can for the winter months. Plus, those Green Bags will help fresh veggies keep much longer. I have a large freezer in the garage so I can stock up on bread, or other items on sale, and buy grass fed meat in bulk from the farmer. My son and I went trout fishing and put our catch in the freezer, too. Deciding on what to have for supper is easy, although I may have to take it out to thaw before leaving for work. However, that beats having to stop by the store on my way home.
Sounds like you may have to alter your shopping habits a bit to get what you're looking for. Once you're used to less frequent trips to the store, you'll appreciate the savings in time and gas, not to mention how nice it is to have food on hand when you want it. Since I freeze/can and grow much of my own, I make very few trips to the grocery store. In fact, I find having to go to the store frequently a major pain. I went last Saturday, and still have everything I need.
Good luck.
