Funny duck rescue story...

Glad to see some other people rescue ducks and geese, too. My son-in-law is a firefighter/paramedic. On a call one day, a very young pekin duck kept coming up to him in the yard, peeping. He asked the owners about the duck, and they told him they were just going to eat it (like, what else do you do with a duck?) Brian was horrified, and asked them if they would take $60.00 for the duck! They couldn't speak English well, but they weren't dumb. So Brian came home with an expensive Pekin duck. LOL.

After they raised her in the house for a few weeks - free range, (going to get new carpet soon), guess who inherited the little duck. Mom already had a duck and some geese and a barnyard. They got new carpet. I still have "Pip", who is now called "Missy".

Missy was lonely when our last goose died last month, so I adopted a drake. Eggs galore! Missy is sitting now, on a dozen eggs. I will be asking a lot of questions. I have never had a hatching before. Just bought babies. I feel like I'm pregnant! (I'm a 65 yr old grandma.)

An interesting story. You'll have to explain to your son what ducks sell for.

But, what the heck, that is not too much to pay for a nice pet. Pekins are lovely creatures.

Oh, my daughter gasped and let him know we paid about $2.00 for our other ducks. She then laughed and loved the baby duck.

She used to live 3-hrs away, and took our two new baby geese. When she came to visit, they would put cloth diapers on each goose and put them in the back seat of the car. Hope nobody had a wreck as they gawked when they saw a goose looking at them out of the back-seat window. The kids would drive up, open the car door, and the pair flapped their webbed feet up the steps, through the house and out to the back yard. They were knick-named "Lunch" and "Dinner", but they lived to ripe old ages. (They didn't cost $60.00, either.)

I had a good laugh too! thank you. and i can relate i had a Muscovy duck in diapers last year and also I am in labor right now my duck is hatching ducklings and it is so stressful.
