on mine her bottom beak is longer and sticks way out to the side. Her top which is kind of straight, when it grows too much ends up curling under.
I only trim her top beak. I leave the bottom because it seems to help her scoop up food.
I found using heavy duty toenail clippers works best and to just chip a little at a time. You can see where the beak changes is where more blood is. Also the more often you trim somewhat close to the blood vessel it starts to retreat a little making the beak a little easier to trim.
But, if yours is a year old she sounds like she is doing fine! You are lucky!
Yogurt and sour cream are nice treats for crooked beak birds.
