So I have a ragtag bunch, laying different colors of eggs, crossed with mutt rooster.

I used the non brown eggs to hatch, coming from brown longhorn chicken, a black and white speckled longhorn and production red who lays green eggs to hatch.

I got three yellow chicks, but one has a black strip his head and back. Never have I seen a marking like this. Looks like a magic marker.

Please post some photos of how it feathers out in another 5 to 6 weeks. Those marks do not look like the typical chipmunk stripe. Should be interesting.

When you breed a mutt you don't know what you will get. I'm not sure what the genetics will be with a black and white speckled longhorn anyway.

I looked it up, the black and white chicken is an exchequer leghorn. I got an assortment of leghorns from Sandhills preservation two years ago, they lay a white to off-white egg. When I originally posted, I could not remember the name.

No it is not a chipmunk marking, it is just a black straight line. I have never seen anything quite like it, wondered if anyone else had either.

One of the white eggs hatched, and so did one of the green eggs, not sure where the other chick came from.

It will be fun to watch how this develops - such a fun hobby.
