Funny Pattern Over Fermented Feed?

Thanks! Is there some info on How do I make fermented grain and how much should they get?
Here's the link I used:

Basically, you scoop some of your feed pellets/crumble into a container and pour water over it. Then, you cover it with a breathable cloth or paper towel, and 3-4 days later, it starts to smell like sourdough. Then, you strain it and feed it. From what I understand, it can completely take the place of regular feed health wise. I only feed it as a side dish, though. I don't want it getting the feeder all crusty or moldy.

Really? Wow! I thought I read that if it was exposed to air it would mold. It is grower crumble. Thank you! Any idea how much water I should have then?

I mix mine to the consistency that I feed it at or close to it. I back slop my fermented. This means, I reserve 1/2 to a cup of fermented after I take out what I'm feeding for the day and add more feed and water. Then mix it up and let it sit until the next morning and repeat the process every day. I only have one crock that I use for my process. I've had the same batch going for at least 6 months or so. If I go away I put the crock in the refrigerator, which slows the process way down. When I get home I take the crock out and continue as normal.
Here's the consistency that I feed the fermented at and a pic of how it looks as it's fermenting.

As it's fermenting, you can slightly see a white film over it in the morning
