And I now have a sad story to tell.
We are going to "depopulate" the whole flock. We are pretty sure that they have mareks. A lot of them are sneezing/coughing, and two of them (father/daughter) are getting mild paralysis. One of them has died already

Whenever a chicken dies, I write them an "obituary/eulogy" of sorts. Maybe I'll post a couple of them on here.
BUT on a much happier note, next year I get to start a breeding pen of BLUE AUSTRALORPS!!!

Maybe crele rocks, too!

So we have three buff brahmas - Peaches, cooties, and Platypus. Platypus got sick and we had to put her down, and then we left for AZ on vacation.
My granny has three little orange and black fish. We named them Peaches, Cooties, and Platypus, and Fish Platypus died last night

I am never naming a chicken platypus again.

ETA: I am never naming anything platypus again.

This poem is for my lovely Spyke:

My Spyke
When my Spyke was little,
She loved to look for fights,
And when I tried to hold her,
She would try to bite!
So I told my Spyke,
"You stop that!"
And loved her anyways.
And now my Spyke is friendly,
And happy all the days.
One day my Spyke went broody,
"Against the law!" I cried.
And now she is the broodiest
of all the feisty whites.
But now she still is friendly,
And GORGEOUS all the time,
And I will always love my Spyke
From spring to wintertime.
~ For my lovely Spyke,
the broodiest of them all.

And here's one for my Silly Lilly:
Silly Lilly
My Lilly girl is very silly,
Her beak is rather teeny,
Her muffs are grey,
Her feet are green,
And she'd rather hide from meanies.
My Lilly is an Easter hen,
But - despite her breed,
My Silly girl won't lay blue eggs,
She won't even lay green!
My Lilly can be rather timid,
She doesn't like to fight,
So if she wants to lay an egg,
She goes with Caroline!
I dearly love my Silly Lilly,
She is so very sweet,
And even if my Lil' was mean,
I still would call her Silly.

~ For my Silly Lilly,
the sweetest, silliest
Easter egger who ever lived.

I have a new story. It just happened about 30 minutes ago.

So, I go outside to retrieve my new hens from a bush they decided to roost in to shove them in the coop. And behold, there is only 2 hens roosting instead of all three. I decide to put these in the coop before searching for the 3rd. Now, I usually hold these new ones by the legs, but I decide to sort of snuggle them this time, carrying both at once. I put one under my arm and try to do that with the other. Of course this results in me holding the sweeter hen oddly while the other perches on my arm and repeatedly slaps me with her stubby little wings. I get this under control and put these two on the roost in the coop. Now, my coop is built into my barn and is just a horse stall converted into a chicken coop with fencing and chicken wire. I start to close the coop door, which is on the inside of the barn, when I hear "BAWKAWWKKK!" I look up. The 3rd hen is perched ON TOP of the large coop door, so pretty darn high off the ground. I have to get this hen down. So here I am, in my pajamas, barefoot, climbing up the wall of my barn like some sort of deranged monkey angrily shouting at a hen. I poked her in the bum and she jumped after much wing flapping down, down below into a pile of hay, landing like the chubby little feather ball she is. I got her in the coop and now I'm here.

ERMAHGERD.
