Funny/Sad/Happy stories of your chickens

We've collected our first three eggs in these last fewish days. Decided to eat them this morning. Two yolks in each one! And at least the last egg, found yesterday, was definitely laid by the black cuckoo marans. She was bragging, the only one in the coop and the egg was warm. I'm wondering if it was her all along. The eggs are progressively darker, the last being almost too dark to be an rir. Oprah did it. Oprah being the bcm. :clap
Awesome! Mom dropped our very first egg minutes after poor Dixie laid it....

XD pretty much! :lau

I caught Lucy chasing butterflies earlier today.... She almost had one but she misjudged how straight up she was jumping! XD fell right on her fuzzy butt. :lau :lau

I love watching my girls chase bugs, and wild birds.

Bad news, Lemon Pepper went after my daughter yesterday. He's going in the freezer.
Good news, we got a great Pyrenees puppy to guard the chickens so Lemon Pepper isn't really needed anyway. :celebrate

My frizzle used to be the MASTER of bird eradication. :lau She was tiny, so she'd sneak up into the middle of a flock and start bouncing around and flapping her winbg and pecking them and going crazy. :lau :lau :lau It was so much fun to watch.

Oh boy. Be warned, they don't really become guardians til they hit 2 years. Until then, don't expect a lot. ;)

Oh, I know that's true plus he's a boy. I read they mature slower. Just having a puppy in the yard should keep some predators away.
Your frizzle sounds like a trip!
I suspect it's one RIR pullet in particular doing the chasing. Probably Lucy. She patrols the fence line like she has authority. :lau

I'm attempting to Incubate 4 eggs. Started with six, but only court made it to lockdown. One Bantum egg and three white leghorn eggs. I'm using a cheap incubator, and it died on me! It is now wrapped in an electric blanket, keeping it at the right temperature. The banty egg was supposed to hatch yesterday, the leghorn eggs tomorrow. I hope they hatch! :fl Next bator I get is going to be a brinsea.

Also, my chickens have been enjoying some tiny frogs. We had a frog spawn, and when the chickens and guineas free range, they feast on frogs. One hopped too close to the coop when they were locked up, and a Leghorn snatched it up and gulped it down... When I feed them lettuce I fear for my fingers... They can be vicious predators!

VEEEERRRRRRRRY SLOWLY. Aspen was the neediest Dog EVER til about the beginning of this year. -_-
Be careful bringing new dogs into the house too. Aspen usually beats em up at least once, but since mom runs this stupid dogsitting business, she gets scolded for doing HER JOB. :barnie Drives me fricking batty. Its diluting her instinct.
