Hi all. Hubby and I are getting ready to take the plunge as chicken owners next spring, 2025. Our county just made it legal to keep 3 hens for laying. I want to learn as much as possible to be a good chicken keeper. I want the chickens healthy and happy during their life cycle. As of now, I have known a couple of people who owned chickens and done some reading online, so a complete newby. I live in Arizona. The hottest it usually gets in my area olis 110, but that rare, usually high 90s to around 105. Winters occasionally in the high teens, but again, rare. Normal lows are mid 20 s to low 30s. we rarely get hard freezes here. I am looking at a fully enclosed run with a coop inside the run. There are colony cats in the neighborhood and coyotes not far, I can hear them. we live on the standard 1/4 acre lot just outside of city limits with neighbors on all sides. a lot of folks around us already have chickens. I look forwards to learning how to be a responsible chicken keeper.
